ACNE AWARENESS MONTH

What is Acne?

Acne is a common skin condition that affects most people at some point in their lives. It manifests as spots, oily skin, and sometimes skin that’s hot or painful to touch. Acne is most commonly linked to the changes in hormone levels during puberty, but it can start at any age.

Acne occurs when certain hormones cause the grease-producing glands next to hair follicles in the skin to produce larger amounts of oil. This oil changes the activity of a usually harmless skin bacterium called P. acnes, which becomes more aggressive and causes inflammation and pus. Additionally, these hormones thicken the inner lining of the hair follicle, causing blockage of the pores. It’s important to note that cleaning the skin does not remove this blockage.

Acne is known to run in families. If both your parents had acne, it’s likely that you’ll also have it. Hormonal changes, such as those that occur during the menstrual cycle or pregnancy, can also lead to episodes of acne in women. There’s no evidence that poor hygiene or sexual activity play a role in acne.

Acne is very common in teenagers and younger adults. About 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne to some extent. Acne is most common in girls aged 14 to 17, and in boys aged 16 to 19. Most people have acne on and off for several years before their symptoms start to improve as they get older. Acne often disappears when a person is in their mid-20s, but in some cases, it can continue into adult life. About 3% of adults have acne over the age of 35.

Acne scars are marks left behind after the acne itself has gone away. It’s really common, with about 1 in 5 people having acne scars on their face, chest, or back. If your goal is to make your scars less noticeable, one of our dermatologists can help by suggesting a treatment that can help.

Treatments at Our Clinic

While there are not many treatments available to treat active acne, we do offer several effective solutions at our clinic, including Sylfirm X, prescription medications, and advanced facials.

Sylfirm X: A Revolutionary Treatment

Treats Acne Scars: Sylfirm X is highly effective in smoothing out acne scars by stimulating collagen production and improving the skin’s texture.

Treats Active Acne: By targeting the deeper dermal layers, Sylfirm X controls acne breakouts, reducing inflammation and preventing new pimples from forming.

Scar formation is a result of your skin’s self-healing mechanism whenever it suffers cuts, inflammation from acne, or any other form of skin trauma. During the healing process, new skin tissues form and help cover the wound and patch up gaps caused by the injury. When the body produces too little or too much collagen, they develop as depressed or raised scars, respectively, on the skin surface.

Why Choose Microneedling for Acne Scars? Arriving at the right treatment for acne scarring can be quite challenging. Sylfirm X, with its RF microneedling technology, stimulates the generation of capillaries, elastin, and collagen, rejuvenating the skin and making it firmer and smoother. This treatment carries a much lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) compared to laser treatments, making it ideal for all skin types.

Additional Treatments

Roaccutane and Other Medications: At our clinic, you can consult with a dermatologist for a prescription for Roaccutane or other medications that can help manage severe acne.

Circadia Oxygen Rx Facials: These facials are designed to relieve the symptoms of Acne Rosacea, such as redness, pustules, and skin itching.

Circadia Dermafrost Peel: A Salicylic acid peel ideal for acne-prone skin, especially for higher-grade acne.
