Hyfrecation

Skin tags and warts are types of benign lesions that can develop on skin. Though their causes differ – skin tags form due to friction of the skin, while warts are caused by viruses and are contagious – the most effective treatment for both is our ConMed Hyfrecation machine. The leading choice among doctors for almost 70 years, it channels electrical energy through a forcep or blunt point to deliver a highly controlled, targeted and effective treatment. This damages or destroys the skin lesion, depending on the desired result, while still ensuring comfort for the patient.

Treatment Areas

FACE

Warts can occur on the skin of the face, having a negative impact on a person’s appearance and potentially their confidence. Skin tags can also develop on the eyelids.

HANDS

Warts commonly occur on the knuckles, fingers, and skin of the hands. Because they are contagious, this can interfere with day-to-day manual activities, including shaking hands.

NECK AND BODY

Skin tags can occur anywhere on the body but are often seen on the neck where a collar rubs against the skin, or other parts of the body where friction occurs.

FAQS ABOUT Hyfrecation

Warts are caused by a virus called Human Papilloma (HPV). When you contract the virus on your hands and face, a small protruding growth appears, commonly known as a wart. Skin tags are growths that are caused by irritation/friction.

At Epsom Skin Clinic, we use the ConMed Hyfrecation machine to successfully remove warts and skin tags. It passes electrical pulses through the machine’s metal tip to the skin, with a variety of attachments for different treatment areas. The lesion is then either heated until the skin cells are destroyed, or a small spark is made at the contact point. The current can also be adjusted, however even at higher frequencies, the procedure is still completely safe and with minimal discomfort.

It’s unlikely that the area will scar. However, a small scab will form for around 5 days before falling away, and we caution against picking, peeling or scrubbing at the skin while healing takes place. We also recommend keeping the skin hydrated, and will discuss a personal plan with you during your consultation.

Most patients don’t report any discomfort, and a topical numbing cream can be used in larger treatment areas or for those with sensitive skin.

The number of wart or skin tag removal treatments required depends on the size and location of the lesions. A personal plan will be discussed in your consultation.
